Canvas HOTEL dallas, JULY 2019

SEMOSMAULDIN | DALLAS, TX

Lori Fox is best known for her abstract geometric shapes and lyrical watercolor paintings of faces. In “Scope”, Lori blends these structured and free-form worlds together to explore the nature of light-source-sun and shadow-reflection-moon with symbols of the “veil” that separates us from seeing fully. Spiritual energy and personal themes are infused in the work but do not dominate the landscape, allowing the viewer to find meaning in each piece based on their own experiences.

JEN MAULDIN GALLERY | DALLAS, TX

Since January 2017 artist Lori Fox has been living on the road, making her studio wherever inspiration was found. She spent time in Marfa, Texas exploring the concepts of light while being able to go behind the scenes at the McDonald Observatory to talk with researchers and drive the 3rd largest telescope on earth. She did further research and made studios in New York, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Spain, and France before arriving to us for the show. In Source & Reflection, Lori blends highly structured and free-form worlds together to uncover the nature of light-source-sun and shadow-reflection-moon. Further exploration goes into the human eye’s ability to perceive objects within a limited scope of light. Spiritual energy and personal themes are infused in the work but do not dominate the landscape, allowing the viewer to find meaning in each piece based on their own experiences.

Faces July 2015

In April 2015 while working with local artisans designing an accessory collection in Nepal, artist Lori Fox found herself in the catastrophic earthquake that devastated the region of Kathmandu where she was located. To process the experience as well as honor the resilience and strength of the Nepali people, Fox has created a series of 50 paintings called “Faces” 14”x17” Watercolor, Oil Pastel, and Graphite on archival 70lb paper.

Brooklyn Art Space artist Lori Fox uses collage, watercolor, oil pastel, and graphite to celebrate the peoples of Africa. Fox was inspired by cultural textiles, coffee farms, and the strength of the women she worked with during her extensive travels to Kenya, Ethiopia, Burundi, and Tanzania. 11”x14”

TOTEMS october 2014

Brooklyn Art Space | Brooklyn, NY

TOTEMS 001

In this body of work, Brooklyn-based artist Lori Fox embarks on a journey to explore the interconnectedness of the different circles of influence in our lives and how we must not lose touch with the natural environments that keep us alive and thriving. 11”x14”

TOTEMS 002, 003

In the second and third installments of the Totem series, Brooklyn-based artist Lori Fox introduces architectural forms to challenge the free forms of watercolor and also support the central totem structure. Similar to the original Totems, she explores the interconnectedness of the different circles of influence in our lives and the seemingly opposing structures of modern society that often hold us in place. 11”x14”

TOTEMS 004

In this fourth installment of the Totem series, Brooklyn-based artist Lori Fox begins to effortlessly blend architectural forms into the free forms of watercolor which continue to support the central totem structure. Fox explores the balance that can be gained by living in modern structures but also caring for and connecting with nature. 11”x14”

PRAYING THE HOURS LETTER PROJECT

2012-2013

In 2010, Director Lauralee Farrer approached Lori Fox and Denise Louise Klitsie about production design for a new film called Praying The Hours. It is a spiritual film based on a religious concept of the canonical prayer hours which represents the “seasons” of life as well as the “seasons” of the day. The film artistically dances between clock-Kronos time and deep-kairos time. Full of inspiration, Fox created a letter project and mailed them to 12 crew members every few months. In 2022 this project went on to be the album covers for the extraordinary soundtrack by LoLo Meares. You can listen to the albums, one for each hour, here.
